Gracie Hunt has gone public with a new beau who has strong and long-time ties to Chiefs Kingdom. Like her, he’s a member of the local NFL family.

In fact, Chiefs fans will recognize his last name and might even see the resemblance he bears to his father, who used to wear No. 10 for the team.

On Sunday Hunt posted a series of photos on her Instagram revealing she is dating Leawood native Derek Green, son of former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green who was with the team for six seasons (2001-07).

“My heart is full,” wrote the daughter of Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt and his wife, Tavia Hunt.

“Grateful for some much-needed time to rest, reflect, and reset after a whirlwind few months post-football season. So thankful for time with the people who keep me grounded, remind me I’m loved, and never fail to make me laugh. Swipe for a few favorite snapshots from life lately.”

The Sporting News and Athlon Sports were the first to identify Derek in Gracie’s photos after one of her followers name-checked him by his Instagram handle.

And, now we know who was in that Instagram photo last month, where she was hugging an unidentified man at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

She wrote: “After meeting 7.5 years ago in this place… all along there was some invisible string.”

Derek also attended the White House Correspondents Dinner with Hunt last month, though she didn’t identify him in those photos.

A match made in Arrowhead heaven?

Derek played football for Rockhurst High School, where he now volunteer-coaches; at Southern Methodist University — also Gracie’s alma mater; Long Island University; and, most recently, for teams in Italy, France and Sweden.

He put his SMU business administration degree to work last year when he joined Creative Planning financial services in Overland Park as a sports operations manager.

In a recent interview on the podcast, “I Played, Too” hosted by Rob Adler, Derek talked about growing up as the son of an NFL player, describing experiences that Gracie herself probably enjoyed — like attending Pro Bowl games and getting to know the other players’ kids.

A “very unique childhood, for sure,” Derek said.

And, one that he didn’t fully comprehend as a little boy running around the Chiefs’ locker room and practice field with his older brother, T.J., who also grew up to be a quarterback like his dad.

Derek recalled players visiting his parents’ home. Priest Holmes. Tony Gonzalez. Tony Richardson. Eddie Kennison. His parents have jerseys from the starting offensive line players displayed in their basement, he said.

As his dad moved from team to team, he spent most of his childhood in Kansas City and is still a Chiefs fan, he said.

(Easy to imagine that as part of Gracie’s vetting process.)

Asked where he sees himself in 10 years, Derek said, “Hopefully find a wife and have a couple of kids.” But he said his new job would give him direction.

“Can’t really tell you a precise answer,” he told Adler. “But I just hope I can be happy.”

Last year Gracie dated North Carolina native and real estate broker Cody Keith, who like Derek played football in college. He’s been scrubbed from her social media accounts.
