Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on ‘top of world’ about relationship with Taylor Swift

For the first time in more than two weeks, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce took a few minutes on Friday to speak with local reporters.

And what a couple of weeks it has been.

Kelce has become good friends with pop superstar Taylor Swift, who has attended the Chiefs’ last two games — in Kansas City against the Chicago Bears and at the New York Jets.

There was no word as of midday Friday whether Swift would be in Minnesota for Sunday’s Chiefs-Vikings game, but Kelce said he’s having fun as his football world collides with hers in entertainment.

“All the attention that comes ... I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl, and right now I’m even more on top of the world,” Kelce said. “It’s fun.”

The attention has certainly intensified. Kelce, a four-time All-Pro, has been popping up more regularly on TV commercials this season. When word got out that he was seeing Swift, his social-media hits and jersey sales skyrocketed.

When the Chiefs played at MetLife Stadium last weekend, photographers seemed to follow Kelce everywhere — including to her apartment on the morning of the game.

“We’re learning with the paparazzi,” Kelce siad. “It comes with it. You’ve got a lot of people who care about Taylor, and for good reason. You just have to keep living and learning and enjoying the moments.

“At the end of the day, I’ve always been pretty good about compartmentalizing and being able to stay focused in the (Chiefs’) building. I’ll keep rolling with that.”

Kelce, who turned 34 on Thursday, missed the Chiefs’ first game of the season after suffering a knee injury a couple of days before the team played the Lions. In three games played this fall, he has recorded a team-high 17 catches and two receiving touchdowns.

The Chiefs have won all three of the games in which Kelce has played, and he said he’s kept his off-field news from becoming a distraction for the team.

“I brought this to myself,” Kelce said. “I’ve been fortunate enough to have fun with it, and that’s all that really matters, that it’s not (ticking) anybody off over here, at least.

“I’m having fun with it ... making sure my focus is winning the game, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.”
