The streets of downtown Kansas City will turn into a red sea on Wednesday.

The Chiefs Super Bowl champions parade will start at noon at Grand Boulevard and Sixth Street, near Enterprise Car Rental and Grand Slam Convenience, according to the Kansas City Sports Commission.

The parade will move south on Grand Boulevard until it gets to Pershing Road, where it will turn right and work its way to Union Station.

If you’re going to the parade, the Kansas City Sports Commission said a few things are not allowed:

  • Booze: Public consumption of alcohol will be prohibited, said Kathy Nelson, CEO of the Kansas City Sports Commission.

  • Drones: Any similar devices are also prohibited over parade crowds, per federal regulations.

  • Big backpacks: The sports commission is also advising fans to travel light and not bring bags or backpacks to the parade.

  • Weapons: Knives, guns or any weapon are also not allowed.

“We will be enforcing all laws as needed and appropriate to ensure everyone’s safety,” Jacob Becchina, public relations officer with KCPD, said.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said there will be hundreds of officers posted along the parade route to ensure an “enjoyable and safe” experience for all.

Personnel working toward the city’s public safety plan will include those from KCPD’s investigations divisions, she said, along with some of the department’s newest recruits.

Graves said the department is prepared to ensure there is not a repeat of February 2020, when crowds of people watched a police chase unfold after a person drove through a traffic barrier.

The Chiefs fought for your right, now come prepared to celebrate your right to party.
