Mizzou basketball loses freshman to transfer portal. He marks departure No. 4
Mizzou men’s basketball just lost another contributor to the transfer portal.
Freshman Marcus Allen became the first member of the Tigers’ 2024 recruiting class to depart the program Friday, per CBS Sports/247Sports reporters Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer.
The 6-foot-7 guard/forward averaged 2.6 points and 2.0 rebounds, shooting 43.9% from the field and 40% from 3-point range across 26 games during the 2024-25 season.
Allen recorded the most minutes played among Missouri’s five freshmen with 248 and averaged 9.2 per contest.
The former four-star recruit announced his commitment to the Tigers on Aug. 7, 2023, and was part of the team’s fifth-ranked recruiting class of 2024.
Allen recorded a career-high 10 points in Missouri’s 111-39 home trouncing of Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 14, and he turned in a solid nine-point performance in the Columbia squad’s 84-68 road loss to then-No. 1 Auburn on Jan. 4.
The Miami product received high praise from coach Dennis Gates, when the third-year Mizzou coach was asked about Allen and sophomore guard Anthony Robinson II after an 84-77 home win over Eastern Washington.
“Their defensive IQs are far beyond their offensive IQs,” Gates said Nov. 11. “I truly believe one of those two will one day be a SEC Defensive Player of the Year.”
Allen joins former Tigers Aidan Shaw, JV Brown and Danny Stephens, who all entered the transfer portal March 25. Shaw announced his commitment to Boston College on Monday.
The Tigers’ lone addition to the 2025-26 roster is Loyola Marymount transfer Jevon Porter, who committed to Missouri on March 27, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.
