Caleb Grill shows off 3-point skills in competitions at Final Four in San Antonio

Caleb Grill had a chance to show his shooting skills Thursday at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, placing second in the men’s 3-point contest and winning the team Hot Shot Challenge.

Grill started strong in his first-round performance in the 3-point contest by making 14 of 20 attempts, including four made “money ball” shots worth two points.

The graduate guard then stayed hot putting up 23 points in the semifinals going 4-for-5 on all five racks which included three made money balls.

Fatigue may have gotten to Grill though as he fell short in the final round, putting up just 15 points and falling to UC San Diego guard/forward Tyler McGhie, who recorded 20 points.

Grill did not leave without a victory. His team’s Hot Shot Challenge win featured Murray State guard Kylen Milton and GCU guard Alyssa Durazo-Frescas, winning with a time of 50.7 seconds. Grill had the punctuation mark when he nailed a half-court shot to end the competition.

Grill and Mizzou guard Tamar Bates were both selected to the Division-I All-Star Game taking place at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The duo marks the third and fourth Tigers to compete in the all-star game joining former Tigers D’Moi Hodge in 2023 and Sean East II in 2024.

Missouri in the transfer portal

Mizzou recently reached out to two players in the transfer portal: Wichita State forward Corey Washington and UT Martin guard Tarence Guinyard.

Washington averaged 13.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1 steal per game this season with the Shockers.

Guinyard averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game at UT Martin.

The Tigers are still looking for players to add from the portal after receiving the commitment of junior forward Jevon Porter, who announced his committing to the Tigers on March 25 from Loyola Marymount.
