KCK police identify woman fatally shot days before 21st birthday

Kansas City, Kansas, police have identified the woman fatally sho early Saturday morning and taken a person of interest into custody.

Officers with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department were called to the 700 block of North 11th Street around 4:30 a.m. Saturday on reports of a shooting, according to a prior press release from department spokesperson Officer T.J. Tomasic.

When officers arrived, they located Ana Juarez, 20, outside a residence suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a press release from KCKPD public information officer Nancy Chartrand.

Juarez was transported to an area hospital where she died as a result of her injuries, Tomasic said. The woman’s 21st birthday would have been on Nov. 4.

A person of interest is in police custody, Chartrand said Monday. The suspect’s name was not released, and it’s unclear what led to the shooting.

Juarez’s death is the 19th homicide of 2025 in Kansas City, Kansas, compared to 21 at this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department continues to investigate the incident, Chartrand said. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip at KCcrimestoppers.com. Tips remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
