Woman fatally shot in Kansas City, Kansas; police investigating homicide

A homicide investigation is underway in Kansas City, Kansas, after a woman was found with a gunshot wound early Saturday and later died at a hospital, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded shortly before 4:30 a.m. to the 700 block of North 11th Street to investigate a report of a shooting, said Officer T.J. Tomasic with the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Arriving officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound outside a home. She was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.

The police department’s major case unit is investigating the homicide. No suspect information or information on what led up to the shooting was released.

The killing is the 19th homicide of the year in Kansas City, Kansas., according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. That compares to 21 homicides at this time last year.

Police urged anyone with information about the fatal shooting to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). Tips remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
