One man is dead, another in custody pending charges after a shooting in Olathe

Update: Police on Monday identified the victim as 21-year-old Landen Roggenkamp of Olathe.

Police arrested a man and were holding him pending possible charges after a 21-year-old man died after being shot Saturday evening in Olathe, a police spokesman said.

At about 9:55 p.m., dispatchers received a call requesting police and sent officers to the 1400 block of East Mart-Way Circle, Sgt. John Moncayo with the Olathe Police Department said.

Arriving officers found the victim suffering from multiple wounds. The victim was taken to a hospital where he later died, Moncayo said.

Officers arrested a 25-year-old man and were holding him in the Johnson County jail pending charges and the outcome of the investigation, Moncayo said.

The killing is Olathe’s second homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. That compares to one homicide reported by this time last year.

Anyone with information regarding the homicide is asked to contact the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS (8477). Witnesses can also contact the Olathe Police Department at 913-971-6363.
