A woman died after crashing into a utility pole early Sunday along Broadway between the Country Club Plaza and the Westport area in Kansas City, a police spokesman said.

The fatal crash occurred shortly after 3 a.m. as the woman was driving north on Mill Creek Parkway, which becomes Broadway at West 43rd Street, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino with the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed that as the woman was passing through a green light at the intersection of Broadway and West 43rd Street, she drove into a utility pole, DiMartino said.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead by emergency medical staff.

The woman’s identity was not released.
