Man shot and killed during argument inside a Kansas City convenience store
Update: The deceased has been identified as Angelo Brayboy, 21.
A man died after being shot Thursday night during an argument inside a Phillips 66 Express Stop in Kansas City’s Northeast area, a police spokesman said.
Officers responded to a shooting just before 9 p.m. at the convenience store in the 4800 block of Independence Avenue in the Lykins neighborhood, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino with the Kansas City Police Department.
Once officers arrived, they were directed inside, where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. DiMartino said the officers began first aid and requested an ambulance.
Emergency medical workers took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, DiMartino said.
A preliminary investigation found that there was “an altercation” between two individuals inside the store before shots were fired, DiMartino said. The victim was hit by gunfire.
Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the convenience store to interview witnesses and collect evidence.
The killing is Kansas City’s 12th homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star. By this time in 2024, there were three killings.
