Man found shot and killed under overpass near 12th and Genessee in Kansas City
Police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead early Monday afternoon in Kansas City, a police spokeswoman said.
Officers were called to the scene just after noon and found the victim under an overpass near 12th and Genessee streets. The man was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, said Officer Donna Drake, a Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives and crime scene investigators collected evidence at the scene and searched for potential witnesses.
The killing marked the 110th homicide reported in the Kansas City metro area in 2022, according to data tracked by The Star.
In 2021, Kansas City had its second deadliest year on record with 157 killings, and in 2020 had its worst year on record with 182 homicides.
