Update: The hospital said around 3:30 p.m. Friday that two of the patients had been released. One person remains in critical condition.

Two patients injured in the shooting at Olathe East High School were in critical condition while the third patient was stable, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Overland Park Regional Medical Center was treating the patients, all adult males, hospital spokeswoman Christine Hamele said in a statement shortly before 2 p.m Friday.

One of the patients was in critical condition while the another was in critical but stable condition, she said. The third was in stable condition. Hospital officials did not identify the patients.

The shooting occurred after 10:30 a.m. in the school’s offices. A school administrator and resource officer were injured in a shooting, according to police. A suspect, who is a student, was also injured and was taken into custody, according to radio traffic captured by Broadcastify.com.

“I’ve been shot,” the resource officer told dispatchers moments after the shooting. He advised that two others, including the suspect, had also been shot.

The high school, located at 14545 W 127th St., is one of five high schools in the Olathe School District. The school has roughly 2,000 students. The district, which is in the suburbs of Kansas City, has fewer than 30,000 students enrolled.

Frightened parents waited anxiously to be reunited with their children on Friday afternoon.
