KC police investigate second homicide reported Monday after body found in woods

Kansas City police investigated a homicide after a body was found in a secluded area east of Swope Park.

Officers were dispatched about 7 p.m. to the 7400 block of East 79th Street, said Capt. David Jackson, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

A person at the scene showed officers where to find the victim, who was located just off the road in a wooded area.

The body was in an advanced state of decomposition and significant trauma was apparent, Jackson said.

The medical examiner will rule on the manner of death.

Earlier Monday, police responded to a shooting in the 2900 block of East 30th Street.

One man, identified as Frank Richardson, 26, was killed.

Kansas City has recorded 153 homicides so far this year, putting it on track to become the deadliest year on record.
