Kansas City, Kansas, police investigate homicide near Silver Court Tuesday afternoon
Update: Police on Thursday identified the victim as 43-year-old Lolester Mitchell of Kansas City, Kansas. Police also said they have suspects in custody.
Kansas City, Kansas, police are investigating a homicide reported Tuesday morning.
Officers were called just before 11:30 a.m. to the 2200 block of Silver Court after a body was found inside an apartment unit, said Nancy Chartrand, a public information officer for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.
Police identified the victim as male, but had no further information at the time, Chartrand said.
The apartment complex is undergoing renovations and police believe the unit where the body was found was occupied, she said.
“So today there’s a lot of individuals in the apartment complex so there’s potential for various witnesses or individuals who may or may not have known the deceased individual,” Chartrand said. “So it takes a little longer sometimes to process these scenes because of the number of people who are actually within the crime scene.”
No cause of death was immediately available. Police don’t yet know how long the body went undiscovered.
Anyone with information is asked to call the tips hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
The killing was the 40th homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, this year, according to data kept by The Star which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 23 homicides in Kansas City, Kansas, by this time last year.
