Man found shot and killed inside apartment in Kansas City, Kansas

A 41-year-old man was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound to the head Sunday at an apartment in Kansas City, Kansas, according to police.

Police were called about 9:52 a.m. to the 1100 block of Central Avenue, where the man was found dead inside an apartment, said Dieren Feldt, a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Detectives from the homicide unit and crime scene investigators were at the scene, Feldt said. Police were working to obtain a search warrant Sunday morning so they could gather evidence and learn what happened.

Later Sunday, police said a person of interest had been identified and was cooperating with police.

The homicide Sunday marked the 34th this year in Kansas City, Kansas, according to data maintained by The Star. The city recorded 37 homicides in 2019.
