Man shot, killed during argument with relatives at Kansas City home: police
Police are investigating an overnight homicide in Kansas City where a man was shot to death after allegedly threatening a relative with a gun during an argument, police said in a news release.
Officers responded to the shooting about 11 p.m. Wednesday to a home near 67th Street and Brooklyn Avenue, said Capt. David Jackson, a spokesman for Kansas City police.
They found the body of a man who had been shot near the front door of the home, he said. Emergency medical workers pronounced the man dead at the scene.
He was later identified as 36-year-old Roget Davis.
Witnesses inside the house at the time of the shooting said a few adults were drinking alcohol when Davis picked up a gun and allegedly started threatening another person, Jackson said. That person picked up a gun and shot Davis who was allegedly threatening him, Jackson said.
The shooter surrendered to police and was cooperating with the investigation, Jackson said. All the people inside the home are related and detectives were working to determine how they are related.
Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477) or the Kansas City Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043.
Davis’ killing is Kansas City’s 142nd homicide so far this year. That compares with 106 homicides by this time in 2019.
There have been 204 homicides this year in the Kansas City metro area.
