Second teen charged in marijuana sale turned fatal shooting in Raytown: prosecutors
A Lee’s Summit teenager was charged Wednesday in the August fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in Raytown, prosecutors said.
Xzaveion King, 17, was charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Lucas Jester, who was found dead in a vehicle in the 8400 block of Lane Drive on the night of Aug. 10, according to the Raytown Police Department.
During an interview, King told detectives he and a friend met Jester to buy marijuana and, while inspecting the drugs, his friend shot Jester, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
King told police he knew his friend had a history of robbing people at gunpoint, according to charging documents.
King is the second teenager charged in the killing. Days after the homicide, prosecutors charged Aaron Michael Hays with second-degree murder and delivery of a controlled substance. A witness told police Hays had said Jester died in a “drug deal gone bad.”
Hays was in the passenger seat of the car with Jester prior to the shooting and fled on foot, police said.
Prosecutors requested King’s bond be set at $100,000 cash. He did not yet have an attorney listed in court records who could be reached for comment.
Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America and sponsored in part by Missouri Foundation for Health.
