Kansas City police say two men found dead in East Bottoms were in late teens, early 20s

The victims of a deadly double shooting in Kansas City’s East Bottoms were two young men in their late teens and early 20s, police said Wednesday in a release.

Police identified the the victims as 18-year-old Jahmiere Green and 22-year-old Brandon Rainey, said Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for Kansas City police.

Officers responded to the shooting around 8 p.m. Tuesday and found the bodies of Green and Rainey inside a vehicle near Guinotte and North Montgall avenues. The intersection is near J. Rieger & Co. and roughly a block from Knuckleheads Saloon.

No suspect information has been released in the most recent homicides.

The killings are the 132nd and 133rd homicides in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 99 homicides in the city by this time last year.

So far this year, there have been 190 homicides in the entire Kansas City metro area.

Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case, police said.

Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America and sponsored in part by Missouri Foundation for Health. As part of this project, The Star will seek the community’s help.
