One teen killed, another injured in shootings early Tuesday in Kansas City, Kansas

One teen was fatally shot and another teen was seriously injured in a shooting early Tuesday in Kansas City, Kansas, police said.

Officers were called about 12:45 a.m. to a shooting in the 900 block of south 11th Street, Officer Tom Tomasic, a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, said in an email.

There they found a teenager in the street suffering from gunshot wounds, Tomasic said. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

A few hours later, just before 6:30 a.m., police were called to another shooting, this time in an alley just east of the earlier shooting call, Tomasic said. Officers found another teenager with a gunshot wound. He was declared dead at the scene.

Police did not immediately release either of the victims’ names or ages Tuesday morning.

The shootings are under investigation.

The killing was the 31st homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, this year, according to data kept by The Star which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 21 homicides in Kansas City, Kansas, by this time last year.
