Man found shot to death in field at The Paseo and Independence Avenue in Kansas City
Police were investigating Kansas City’s latest homicide Thursday morning after a man who had been shot was found dead in a field, police said in a news release.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly after 1:15 a.m. in the area of Independence Avenue and The Paseo, said Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a spokeswoman for Kansas City police.
Witnesses directed arriving officers to a nearby field where they found the victim. Emergency medical workers pronounced the man dead at the scene, El-Ashkar said.
The man’s death marks Kansas City’s 128th homicide of this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police shootings. By this time last year, Kansas City had 91 homicides.
Across the entire metro area, there have been 181 homicides this year.
Anyone with information about this deadly shooting is asked to call the Kansas City Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $25,000 for tips leading to an arrest in this case.
