Homicide investigation underway after man fatally shot Sunday inside Kansas City home
A man was fatally shot Sunday morning inside a Kansas City home, police said.
Officers were called just before 7:30 a.m. to a home in the 3700 block of Benton Boulevard on an unknown medical call. It was later upgraded to a shooting call as first responders headed to the scene, said Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department.
When they got to the house, police found a man in his 20s suffering from a gunshot wound, Becchina said. He was given first aid, but still died at the scene.
No suspect information was available as of Sunday morning.
A number of agents with Operation LeGend, a federal initiative to curb and solve violent crime, were helping to investigate the homicide Sunday morning alongside police, Becchina said.
This was the third homicide in Kansas City within 24 hours. Two men were found fatally shot around 6 p.m. Saturday in a backyard near East 47th Street and Sterling Avenue, police said at the time.
The killing was the 124th homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star that includes fatal police shootings. There had been 90 homicides in Kansas City by this time last year.
An award up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in any homicide investigation, police said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America and sponsored in part by Missouri Foundation for Health. As part of this project, The Star will seek the community’s help.
