Man dies at hospital following Sunday night shooting in Kansas City

A man has died after he was shot late Sunday in Kansas City, police said.

Police responded to a shooting about 10:45 p.m. Sunday in the 6200 block of East 16th Terrace, Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email. There they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Police identified the man as 24-year-old Michael A. Parks on July 8.

The man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, El-Ashkar said. He was later pronounced dead.

No suspect information was available Monday morning. The victim has not yet been identified publicly.

Police asked anyone with information to call anonymously to the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477. Information leading to an arrest can result in a reward up to $25,000.

The man is the city’s 103rd homicide victim this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police killings. That compares to 71 homicides reported by this time last year.

Across the entire Kansas City metro area, there have been 147 homicides in 2020.
