Olathe police responding to burglary find woman killed inside home Sunday morning

Olathe police were investigating a homicide Sunday after officers responding to a burglary found a woman killed inside a home.

The burglary was reported about 2:58 a.m. at a home in the 800 block of N. Hamilton Street, according to a news release from the Olathe Police Department.

Arriving officers found a 42-year-old woman dead inside the home. Police later identified the victim as Jessica L. Smith.

The killer had apparently fled before the officers arrived, police said.

The police department’s investigations division was interviewing parties of interest in the case, according to the news release.
