Police: 1 killed, 2 injured in shooting during gathering at 10th and Summit overnight

One person is dead and two are critically injured after a triple shooting early Saturday morning, police said.

Officers were called to 10th and Summit streets around 3:30 a.m. on reports of gunshots, said Kansas City Police Department Spokesman David Jackson in a news release.

When officers arrived, they located three victims. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, another woman and a man were brought to the hospital with critical injuries.

An initial investigation, Jackson said, showed that the shooting may have stemmed from a disturbance at a family gathering.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8744.

This is the 73rd homicide in Kansas City this year according to data kept by The Star which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 57 by this time last year.

Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America. As part of this project, The Star will seek the community’s help.
