Shooting leaves one dead early Sunday morning in Kansas City, Kansas

A person was found shot and killed early Sunday in Kansas City, Kansas, according to police.

Officers were called about 12:55 a.m. to a shooting in the 2600 block of Delavan Avenue, where they found a young man with a gunshot wound, according to a news release posted to Facebook by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim was declared dead at the scene. Police did not immediately release his name, estimating he was between 17 and 20 years old.

The homicide is under investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

The fatal shooting is the 15th homicide of the year in Kansas City, Kansas. By this time last year, the city had seven homicides.
