One dead after shooting outside convenience store early Sunday in Kansas City
A man was killed in a shooting outside a convenience store early Sunday in Kansas City, police said.
Police were initially called about 1 a.m. to East 12th Street and Hardesty Avenue, but later found the crime scene at Hardesty and Independence avenues, Capt. David Jackson, a Kansas City Police Department spokesman, said in an email.
The incident began when two vehicles pulled into an unnamed convenience store early Sunday, Jackson said. Conversation was exchanged between the occupants. Then shots were fired, injuring a man.
The victim was taken to the hospital where he later died, Jackson said. A homicide investigation is underway.
Sunday’s homicide victim is the 71st in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police shootings.
An award up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in this case, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America. As part of this project, The Star will seek the community’s help.
