Teen injured in shooting in Independence; police release image of suspect vehicle

Independence police were investigating after a teenager was injured in a shooting Friday afternoon.

The shooting was reported about 4:22 p.m. in the 800 block of South Overton Avenue, police said in a statement on Facebook.

At the scene, officers located a victim, reported to be a 16-year-old, who had been shot. The teen was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

A nearby surveillance camera captured an image of a suspect vehicle, police said in the statement. The vehicle is believed to be dark-colored, blue or gray, and was described as a Nissan Pathfinder or similar-style vehicle.

Police said the suspect vehicle was occupied by two or three white males.

Police are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
