3 teenagers charged in shooting death of 18-year-old in Prairie Village
Three teenagers have been charged in connection to a shooting that left an 18-year-old dead in Prairie Village earlier this month, prosecutors announced Thursday.
The teens were charged in addition to a 35-year-old man facing charges who was taken into custody earlier this week in Missouri.
According to a statement from the Johnson County District Attorney, distributed through the Prairie Village Police Department, a 17-year-old from Kansas City, Kansas, a 16-year-old girl from Mission and a 17-year-old boy from Merriam have each been charged with first-degree murder and attempted robbery. Their names were not released.
The charges were announced a day after prosecutors said Jesse M. Monreal of Kansas City, Kansas, was charged with first-degree murder and attempted robbery. Monreal was arrested in Livingston County, Missouri, Tuesday after a car chase involving a stolen truck, according to the sheriff’s office there.
Monreal and the three teens are facing charges in the May 5 shooting death of 18-year-old Kiven Maquial.
Maquial was found in the parking lot of the Highlawn Montessori School at 3531 Somerset Drive in Prairie Village around 6:15 a.m. and declared dead from gunshot wounds. Police believe the shooting occurred around 2:45 a.m. that day.
School officials said Maquial was a former student at Shawnee Mission East and Shawnee Mission Northwest high schools who was working to get his diploma through the district’s Project Finish program.
