Prairie Village police seek suspect vehicle in May 5 shooting death of 18-year-old

Prairie Village police are asking for the public’s help finding a blue Ford Focus linked to the May 5 killing of a Mission 18-year-old, and are offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest or felony charges.

The reward was increased Thursday from $2,000 to $5,000, the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers announced in a news release Thursday morning.

The discovery of Kiven Maquial’s body was reported by a jogger about 6:15 a.m in the parking lot of Highlawn Montessori School at 3531 Somerset Drive. He had been shot and killed.

Police have said the shooting occurred hours earlier, around 2:45 a.m. Houses in the neighborhood were also struck by gunfire.

Police are asking for help finding a car that was seen leaving scene of the shooting, and are looking for the occupants of the car.

The car, a 2011 to 2014 blue Ford Focus ST with no front license plate, was last seen traveling north near Mission Road and 56th Street, police said. It is possible the car contains bullet holes.

Maquial was a former student at Shawnee Mission East and Shawnee Mission Northwest high schools. District officials said the teen was last enrolled at Northwest in December and was working to get his diploma through Shawnee Mission School District’s Project Finish program.
