Prairie Village police investigate homicide after teen is shot, houses hit by bullets

Prairie Village police were investigating a homicide after a 19-year-old man was found shot and killed Tuesday morning in the 3500 block of Somerset Drive.

A jogger had found the body lying on the ground and called police about 6:15 a.m., said Capt. Ivan Washington of the Prairie Village Police Department.

Neighbors said gunfire had struck several surrounding houses. Police were canvassing the area looking for evidence and trying to establish a timeline, Washington said. No suspect information was available.

Investigators set up a tent in the driveway of Highlawn Montessori School at 3531 Somerset Drive and were focusing their attention there.

“For an indefinite period of time, Somerset Drive will be closed between Mission Road and Windsor Street,” the police department said on Twitter. “Please avoid the area!”

The Johnson County Crime Lab and the Johnson County Medical Examiner joined Prairie Village police in investigating the death.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Prairie Village Police Department at 913-385-4603 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
