Kansas City police investigate homicide outside lofts in River Market area
Kansas City police were investigating Monday evening after a man was found dead outside a loft building in the River Market area following a report of a shooting.
Police were called to the Cold Storage Lofts at 500 E. Third St. just before 5:30 p.m., according to Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman.
Officers found a man inside a vehicle that was parked in the circle drive outside the building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police later identified the man as Charles Shirley, 41.
Witnesses told police a possible suspect was seen leaving the area on foot.
The investigation was ongoing Monday night. Detectives were speaking to witnesses and gathering information to learn what led to the killing.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police department’s homicide unit at 816-234-5043 or call the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-8477. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in this case or other unsolved homicide cases.
The killing Monday marked the 54th homicide reported in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star. By this time last year, the city recorded 47 homicides.
