Police break up fight in yard of Kansas City home, find woman fatally shot inside
Police are investigating Kansas City’s latest homicide after a woman was found fatally shot inside a home late Sunday, police said.
Officers responded to a reported shooting at a house in the 3700 block of East Seventh Street, Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for Kansas City police, said in an email.
Arriving officers found multiple people fighting in the front yard. Once the fight was brought under control, officers found an adult female shooting victim inside the house, Becchina said.
Emergency medical workers responded and declared the woman dead at the scene.
Police have one person in custody, who they are calling a person of interest. Police are not searching for any additional suspects at this time, Becchina said.
Detectives were interviewing people where were at the home at the time of the disturbance. Crime scene investigators were gathering evidence to help determine what led up to the shooting.

The Woman’s death is Kansas City’s 48th homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star. That compares to 45 homicides reported by this time last year.
Across the entire Kansas City metro area, there have been 72 homicides so far this year.
