Leawood police respond to calls of shots fired, find shell casings outside apartments

Multiple gunshots were fired Sunday afternoon outside an apartment complex in Leawood, police said.

Officers responded to several calls of shots fired about 2:15 p.m. in the 13700 block of Kenneth Road, according to Capt. Brad Robbins, a spokesman for the Leawood Police Department.

No injuries were reported. Officers found several shell casings at the scene.

Witnesses told police they saw a black car fleeing the area right after shots were fired. A second car, described as light in color, followed it, Robbins said in a statement.

In December, a 24-year-old Kansas City man was killed and another person was wounded during a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment building in the area, near West 138th Street and Kenneth Road.

Leawood police asked anyone with information about the Sunday incident to call 913-663-9309, email tips@leawood.org or call the Kansas City Metro Crime Stoppers’ TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
