Man, 18, dies after shooting on 39th Street in KCMO, marking city’s 42nd homicide

Kansas City police were investigating a homicide Thursday when an 18-year-old man died after a Wednesday shooting.

The man, identified as Damen Taylor, was shot at around 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 9400 block of East 39th Street, Kansas City Police Department spokesman Jacob Becchina said in an email.

By the time police arrived at the scene, Becchina said, the alleged shooter had fled and Taylor had been transported to the hospital by family members.

Police were told Thursday morning that Damen had died from his injuries, Becchina said.

His death marks the 42nd homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 37 killings by this time last year.
