Man shot to death overnight during disturbance in Kansas City home

Police are investigating Kansas City’s latest homicide after a man was shot inside a home during a disturbance, police said Monday.

The shooting occurred just before midnight Sunday night near East 42nd and Prospect Avenue, according to Capt. David Jackson, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

Police identified the victim as Montai Duncan, 29.

Arriving officers found Duncan inside a nearby home. Witnesses told police that a person entered the home and got involved in a disturbance with the victim, Jackson said. The person then shot the victim and left.

Emergency medical crews responded to the home and pronounced Duncan dead at the scene.

No suspect information was available.

On Monday, occupants inside the residence declined to comment about the shooting.

The homicide is the 54th of the year in the Kansas City area, according to data kept by The Star. It is Kansas City’s 39th homicide in 2020, which compares to 34 homicides in the city by this time last year.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $25,000 is offered for information in this homicide.
