Police in Kansas City, Kansas, investigate homicide after shooting victim dies

Police in Kansas City, Kansas, are investigating a homicide after a man shot last week died.

The victim was identified Friday as 22-year-old Erick Reynaldo Rangel-Mendoza by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.

Officers responded to a shooting on Feb. 21 in the 1200 block of Central Avenue.

Rangel-Mendoza was transported in critical condition to an area hospital where he underwent surgery.

Police said at least 12 shots were fired from Central Avenue toward Rangel-Mendoza, who was parked in a car in the Family Dollar lot.

This is the fifth homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, this year.
