Man suffers life-threatening injuries following a shooting in Kansas City, Kansas

A man was in critical condition following a shooting Friday afternoon in the 1200 block of Central Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, police said.

Just after 1:45 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area that injured one person.

At least 12 shots were fired from a vehicle on Central Avenue and toward a man parked in a car in the Family Dollar lot, said Officer Thomas Tomasic, a spokesman with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department. The victim, who is in his early 20s, suffered life-threatening injuries and was undergoing surgery.

Another vehicle in the parking lot was struck, but it was not occupied.

Police were working to locate surveillance footage showing the vehicle, but said no suspect or vehicle description was available.
