KC police report homicide at East 40th and Olive streets

Kansas City police are investigating a homicide after they responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. Friday on shots fired at East 40th and Olive streets.

Upon arrival, they found a deceased male on the sidewalk on the south side of Olive Street, said police spokesman Capt. Tim Hernandez. This was the 144th homicide of the year according to data kept by The Star that includes fatal police shootings. There had been 134 homicides by this time last year.

Police are interviewing neighbors and witnesses. They have not yet publicly identified the victim or his cause of death. No suspect information is available at this time.
