After three decades, the Cosmic Coaster at KC’s Worlds of Fun has been retired

The Cosmic Coaster has seen changes over its three decades at Worlds of Fun, from a name change and new cars, to different park management. Now it may be facing its biggest change yet: retirement.

Formerly called the Wacky Worm, the kids’ ride was installed in 1993. It is no longer listed as an attraction on the park’s website, and Worlds of Fun confirmed the ride has been retired over the phone.

Worlds of Fun visitors posted photos on Facebook on June 30 of a construction crew taking down the Cosmic Coaster.

Worlds of Fun has gone through a series of management changes since 2023, when Cedar Fair merged with Six Flags.

In March, Six Flags announced it was selling seven theme parks, including Worlds of Fun, to EPR Properties. The Kansas City, Missouri-based real estate company invests in entertainment properties, like amusement parks and movie theaters, nationwide.

While EPR Properties owns the land, the day-to-day operations are managed by a different company, Enchanted Parks.
