Dog, ‘terrified’ by July 4 fireworks, fell 15 feet into well. Rescuers gave him a name

On Saturday, July 4, the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department rescued a dog that had fallen into a well after running away scared from the sound of fireworks.

Friends of KCK Animal Services named the dog Brisket after he was rescued. Brisket fell 15 feet into the well, which was filled with oil and sewage water.

“Imagine being on your own your whole life and it’s the 4th of July in KCK. It’s dark and loud and you are running, terrified for your life. You can’t see anything and run straight into a well, falling 15 feet into the dirty water that is mixed with oil and sewage,” Friends of KCK Animal Services posted to Facebook.

Friends of KCK Animal Services said in their post that one firefighter described Brisket when they found him.

“When I looked down in the well at him, he looked up at me, and his eyes said I give up,” the firefighter was reported to have said.

After Brisket was rescued, Friends of KCK Animal Services bathed him and fed him brisket. That’s where they got the idea for his name.

Friends of KCK Animal Services is requesting donations on their Facebook page for Brisket and other shelter animals.
