Getting to Chappell Roan’s Kansas City shows: Tips for parking, streetcar & bus
Whether you take the Pink Pony Express streetcar or hoof it, here are tips to get to the Chappell Roan’s Kansas City concerts.
The “Good Luck, Babe!” singer will perform at Museum and Memorial Park, which is the lawn area in front of the Liberty Memorial and the National World War I Museum and Memorial.
More than 30,000 fans will “get it hot like Papa John” on Friday, Oct. 3, and Saturday, Oct. 4. Tickets have already sold out for both shows.
The pop star’s home state of Missouri is one of three locations for the mini tour — called Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things — which started in New York City and ends in Los Angeles.
This will be a lively weekend in Kansas City: the first concert coincides with First Friday in the Crossroads, and Oktoberfest at Crown Center runs from Friday evening through Saturday night.
Before you “take this city,” plan the logistics to get to and from the show. The streetcar (wrapped in a special design for the show), bus, your car or your own two feet can all help you get to the show through the crowded streets.
Find the venue map on Chappell Roan’s Kansas City concert website. It shows that the general admission entrance is to the south of the lawn.
What streets will be closed?
Streets directly surrounding the museum property will also be closed beginning on the morning of each show, a spokesperson with the Kansas City Police Department said. This includes Kessler Road, Main Street and Memorial Drive. The spokesperson psays the streets will be “closed intermittently to ensure safe pedestrian traffic at the end of the event.”
Where can you park for Chappell Roan in KC?
You can park at paid surface lots and parking garages at Crown Center and Union Station, right next to the concert venue.
The free streetcar takes people from the River Market, Power & Light District and the Crossroads to the concert venue. There are nearly 40,000 paid and free spots in the downtown area to choose from. Go to the streetcar website for a guide to parking downtown.
If you don’t mind a hilly walk, parking in a residential area could save you money. Neighborhoods like Union Hill, Longfellow, Beacon Hill and the West Side are less than 1 mile away as the crow flies from the venue, and parking is usually free.
Should I walk to the Chappell Roan concert?
The Liberty Memorial’s striking views of the Kansas City skyline come at a cost to pedestrian’s legs. The venue is located at the top of a hill.
Walking both Main Street to the east of the venue and Kessler Road to the west will mean a steep climb on the way to the concert. Wyandotte Street, which connects to 31st Street to the south, is slightly flatter.
Using the streetcar to get to Museum and Memorial Park
The Kansas City Streetcar will run every 10-12 minutes during concert weekend until 1 a.m. The free streetcar takes people from the River Market, Power & Light District and the Crossroads to the concert venue.
For arrival information, check the display at streetcar stops or Google or Apple Maps.
Unfortunately, the long-awaited streetcar extension to the south will not open until Oct. 24, only weeks after Roan performs. But you might see the vehicles and hear their bells on test drives as far south as The Plaza.
How to get around KC on the bus
Kansas City’s bus system is free for riders and there are multiple routes that come close to the venue. Use Google Maps or the RideKC website to plan your route. Spokesperson Cindy Baker said the official reroutes for the buses have not yet been released.
On the weekdays and Saturdays, the Main Street MAX is scheduled to run every 20 minutes until around midnight. Despite the name, the MAX goes down Broadway in Midtown, because of ongoing streetcar construction. For the concert, get off at the 31st Street or Pershing Road stops.
The east-west 31st Street bus is scheduled to come every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends. Disembark at the 31st and Main stop.
