KC Streetcar to be suspended for a week. Here’s the temporary replacement
Kansas City residents and visitors hoping to ride the streetcar this week will be met with the bus instead.
The streetcar route will be temporarily suspended from Monday through Sept. 14 as workers complete necessary maintenance prior to the Main Street extension to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, scheduled for Oct. 24, according to Ride KC.
Cars will be unable to travel on Delaware Street between Independence Avenue and Seventh Street during this time as well.
Bus service to fill in for KC Streetcar
A free dedicated “Streetcar Link” bus service will be pick up riders in the meantime and operate during regular streetcar hours with frequencies of about 12-15 minutes.
The bus, however, will not stop at the River Market North at Third Street and Grand Boulevard or the Union Station Northbound at Pershing Road and Main Street. Instead, riders will board and exit from the Union Station Southbound stop and the Third Street and Walnut Street stop instead.
Crews will complete work on the Riverfront Extension Project that requires a shutdown, like clipping wires and placing the overhead guide wire between Second and Third streets.
