Toddler dies after being struck by SUV in south Kansas City driveway

A toddler died after being struck by an SUV in the driveway of a Kansas City home Sunday afternoon, according to a police spokesman.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. in the 8100 block of East 96th Terrace in the Bannister Acres neighborhood, said Capt. Jake Becchina with the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a silver SUV ran over the child, Becchina said. Shortly after the toddler was taken to a hospital, medical staff pronounced the child dead.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene, Becchina said. The investigation into the child’s death is ongoing.

The crash is the city’s 49th traffic fatality of the year.
