Young man dies in shooting in Kansas City’s Northland, police say

A young man was killed in a shooting in Kansas City’s Northland on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Officers responded to the 7800 block of Northeast 75th Court around 2:15 p.m., according to Capt. Jake Becchina, a KCPD spokesperson. On arrival, the officers discovered a young man, who they think may have been a teenager, unresponsive in the front yard with gunshot wounds.

The shooting victim was taken to a hospital by emergency medical responders. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, Becchina said.

Officers think an altercation between at least two people led to the shooting, Becchina said.

Wednesday’s shooting was the 45th homicide reported in Kansas City in 2025, according to data collected by The Star. At this time last year, 46 homicides had been reported in the city, according to Star data.
