A Kansas woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday to selling another Kansas woman the drugs that contributed to her death by overdose early last year.

Beulah Beatrice Quiroz, 39, pleaded guilty in Johnson County court to one count of distribution causing death, a felony. Quiroz was initially also charged with use of a communication facility during a drug felony, according to court records.

Quiroz was convicted of selling narcotics to 46-year-old Dori Cunagin on February 6, 2024, in Overland Park, according to court documents. Cunagin died the same day in Mission, according to an obituary shared online after her death.

Quiroz was arrested and charged on January 30, 2025 following an investigation by the Overland Park Police Department, court records indicate.

Dori Sue Cunagin grew up in Kansas City and worked at several establishments across the city, including as a chef at Big Biscuit and a cashier at 7/11, according to her obituary. She took pride in her intricate tattoos and loved to cook, and is survived by two daughters, loved ones shared in the obituary.

“Dori lived life on her terms, by her principles, making a lasting impact on all fortunate enough to have crossed her path,” Cunagin’s obituary reads. “Her steadfast belief in living authentically and loving deeply left an enduring impression on those she loved.”

Quiroz is currently being held on a $250,000 bond. She will next appear in Johnson County court on June 16 at 3:30 p.m. for a sentencing hearing.
