Man charged with murder in hit-and-run, says he’d been robbed by victim a day earlier
A Kansas City man has been charged with murder, accused of intentionally hitting another person with his car last week.
Anthony Milligan, 55, faces charges in Jackson County Court of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the fatal April 17 hit-and-run incident, Kansas City police said.
Officers responded to the 3700 block of E. 51st Street around 6 p.m., according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a KCPD spokesperson. Terry Lindsey, 50, was found seriously injured and transported to a local hospital, where he died shortly after, DiMartino said.
According to court documents, Milligan called 911 just after the incident and allegedly told dispatchers that he had run over Lindsey after Lindsey allegedly approached his black Chevy and pulled on the handle.
Milligan also said that Lindsey had robbed him the day before in the parking lot of his apartment complex by harassing him outside his car and then grabbing his wallet through the drivers’s side window, court documents state.
The hit-and-run also took place in Milligan’s apartment parking lot, according to court documents, after Lindsey allegedly tried to approach Milligan’s car again, pulling on the door handles and briefly wielding a brick, court documents read. Milligan told investigators that he had threatened to “run Lindsey’s ass over” before reversing, but claimed that actually injuring him was an accident, according to court documents.
Investigators also reviewed security footage captured in the parking lot, which shows Linsdey running away from Milligan’s car as Milligan drives straight at him after an interaction, according to court documents.
The video shows Milligan, in the car, slowly chasing Lindsey out of the parking lot before Lindsey pulls on the car door, court documents read. The footage then shows Milligan running across the lot away from Lindsey, who follows and allegedly drives over the curb onto the grass at high speed, running over Lindsey.
Milligan is currently being detained in the Jackson County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond, according to court records. He will next appear in court at 10 a.m. April 29 for a bond review hearing.
Lindsey’s death was the 44th homicide of the year and the first homicide of the year by vehicle, according to data collected by The Star. At the same time last year, 44 homicides had also been reported in the city, according to Star data.
