Nearly two weeks after a car crash in Overland Park, a Kansas City woman has died of the injuries she sustained, the Overland Park Police Department shared Monday.

The fatal crash took place on April 4 at the intersection of West 143d Street and Metcalf Avenue, according to Officer John Lacy, a spokesperson with Overland Park police. Officers responded around 4:18 p.m. and found Bonnie Holcomb, 93, in critical condition.

According to Lacy, Holcomb was turning left onto Metcalf Avenue when she failed to yield to another driver at a flashing yellow light and was hit by another car in the intersection.

Holcomb was pronounced dead at an Overland Park hospital on April 15, according to an obituary shared online. Police were notified of her death on April 16, according to Lacy.

Bonnie Jean Holcomb, who moved to Kansas City in 2012 to be closer to family, was deeply engaged both with Martin City Baptist Church and her favorite water aerobics classes, according to an obituary shared online.

Loved ones remember Holcomb as a warm and creative woman who adored spending time with her family, especially around the holiday season.

“Christmas was her favorite time of year—her beautifully wrapped gifts and her cherished Santa Claus collection were legendary among those who knew her,” Holcomb’s obituary reads.

The other driver involved in the crash, who was not injured, has not been publicly identified.
