Man charged with murder in weekend shooting of woman near Blue Valley Park: Prosecutor
A man was charged with murder on Tuesday in connection with the death of a woman in a weekend shooting near Blue Valley Park Kansas City’s East Side.
Damien A. Carter, 39, faces charges of second-degree murder, along with unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action, after allegedly shooting and killing 56-year-old Pamela Ahmed on Saturday.
Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 5600 block of East 29th Street around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to KCPD spokesperson Sgt. Phil DiMartino.
Arriving officers were directed to a woman, later identified as Ahmed, in the front yard of a home with gunshot wounds to her upper body. Ahmed was declared dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage captured at the home where Ahmed was shot shows a man identified as Carter driving up to the house in a Chevrolet Tahoe and crossing part of the front yard, according to court documents. As Ahmed approaches him from the house, court records read, the footage allegedly shows Carter shooting her multiple times with a handgun.
According to court documents, an eyewitness told investigators that Ahmed had recently become addicted to crack cocaine and that Carter had allegedly sold her drugs in the past. The witness also said that just before she exited the house, Ahmed had indicated that her drug dealer had arrived, court documents read.
Court records indicate that Carter was arrested after investigators matched him with the car observed at the scene of the shooting, as well as the handgun allegedly used to shoot Ahmed.
Carter has previously been convicted of offenses including burglary, armed criminal action, firearm theft, harassment and possession of illegal substances, according to court records. He is being held on a $25,000 bond and will next appear in Jackson County court on March 11.
Ahmed’s death was the 36th homicide reported in Kansas City in 2025, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. At the same time last year, 31 homicides were reported in the city.
