A Kansas City man has been charged with murder in a fatal stabbing in Kansas City Northland on Sunday, according to court documents.

Nathan W. Miller, 31, faces charges of first-degree murder, assault and two counts of armed criminal action. He was taken into custody Sunday and pleaded not guilty to all charges Monday in a Clay County court, according to court documents.

Kansas City police officers responded to reports of the stabbing, in the 8800 block of Northeast 105th Place, around 11 a.m. Sunday, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department. Responding officers discovered a man in an upstairs bedroom with multiple stab wounds.

Miller is accused of stabbing the victim multiple times after a verbal argument, according to Kansas City police officers. Police believe the killing is part of a larger domestic violence incident, Gonzalez said.

The victim has not been publicly identified as of Monday evening, though police believe Miller knew him.

Miller is being held in the Clay County Detention Center on a $1 million bond. He will next appear in court on Oct. 15.

The fatal stabbing was the 123rd homicide reported in Kansas City in 2024, according to data collected by The Star. At the same time last year, 148 homicides had been reported in the city, according to Star data.
