Taylor Swift was hardly the only celebrity to watch the Chiefs open the NFL season Thursday. The Super Bowl champs have a deep bench of star fans and several showed up at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
NBC, which broadcast the game, found U.S. Men’s National Team and AC Milan star Christian Pulisic in the crowd. But (annoyed) soccer fans noted that NBC didn’t mention he was sitting next to goalkeeper Matt Turner.
The very thought of Pulisic and Swift in the same stadium left his fans breathless. (Was he cheering for the Chiefs?)
Royals catcher Salvador Perez, wearing a Patrick Mahomes jersey, signed autographs before the game. Mahomes became a part-owner of the Royals four years ago.
The Thursday Night Football game attracted a Royals lineup — teammates Bobby Witt Jr., Vinnie Pasquantino, MJ Melendez and Kyle Isbel were on hand.
“Saturday Night Live” star Heidi Gardner, a Kansas City native, participated in the “World’s Largest Tailgate: Tailgate Games” before kickoff.
She sat at a table in the parking lot and made friendship bracelets with Donna Kelce, mother of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
She was one of three KC celebrities at the game who co-host the annual Big Slick fundraiser for Children’s Mercy. Before the game, Rob Riggle, who grew up in Overland Park, served as the first Drum Honoree to open the Chiefs’ 2024 season.
Their friend and fellow Chiefs superfan, “Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet (who lives in the metro area), spent time in a suite with Raytown South alum Quincy Hall, who staged a dramatic comeback to win a 400-meter gold medal at the Olympics in Paris last month.
Tyler Hynes and Hunter King, two of the most popular stars from the Hallmark Channel, attended to announce the Nov. 30 debut of “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story,” the movie they filmed in Kansas City last month.
Swift returned to Chiefs Kingdom to watch Kelce and his teammates begin chasing their dream — and an NFL first — of three consecutive Super Bowl rings.
Her last trip to Arrowhead was Jan. 13, when the Chiefs beat the Miami Dolphins in near-record cold temperatures — it was so frigid that day that Patrick Mahomes’ helmet shattered on a hit.
This month marks the one-year anniversary of Swift’s first trip to Arrowhead as a fan. On Sept. 24, 2023, she shocked fans by popping up in a suite to watch the Chiefs annihilate the Chicago Bears 41-10.
She is currently taking a two-month break from her Eras Tour, which resumes Oct. 18 in Miami.
